Spot demand lifts chana prices in futures trade

Chana prices were higher 0.25 per cent to Rs 4,438 per quintal in futures trade today, tracking a firm trend at spot market on pickup in demand.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chana for delivery in August gained Rs 11, or 0.25 per cent to Rs 4,438 per quintal with an open interest of 16,840 lots.

Similarly, commodity for delivery in September edged up by Rs 4, or 0.09 per cent to Rs 4,456 per quintal in 1,54,870 lots.

Analysts said positions enlarged by speculators, driven by rising demand at the the spot market against restricted supplies from producing regions mainly led to the rise in chana prices in futures trade.
