Mustardseed prices flared up by Rs 71 to Rs 4,441 per quintal in futures trading today after participants created positions amid a firming trend at physical markets on strong demand.

In futures trading at the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, mustardseed for delivery in September contracts rose Rs 71, or 1.62 per cent, to Rs 4,441 per quintal, with an open interest of 2,760 lots.

Similarly, delivery in June went up Rs 48, or 1.13 per cent, to Rs 4,287 per quintal, in an open interest of 68,100 lots.

Marketmen said strong demand in spot markets against tight stocks in the market following forecast of below-normal monsoon rains influenced sentiment.
