Atleast 10 persons have died while 20 others were taken ill after consuming spurious liquor in several villages in Mubarakpur area, police said today.

Six police officials were suspended on charges of laxity following the incident, they said.

Superintendent of Police Arvind Sen said people in eight villages in Mubarakpur area were taken ill after they consumed country-made liquor last night, ten of whom have died.

While some died at their home after consuming the liquor yesterday, others died at a hospital, he said.

Though villagers claimed 21 people have died, it was not confirmed by the administration.

Station Officer Vishwanath, beat-in-charge Rajdev Yadav and four constables have been suspended on charges of laxity, the SP said.
