An inter-college student in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district today opened fire in the classroom and seriously injured one of his classmates after she refused to accept his proposal for a relationship.
Another girl also sustained injury in the incident that took place at Kumrala Inter College in Gajraula area of the district, police said. The accused, Salman, a student of Class XI, opened fire when mathematics class was going on.
According to police sources, Salman, a resident of Mohor Ka Patti village, had been pestering the Dalit girl with his romantic overtures for the past one month.

Today, during the recess before the math class he proposed her again. But she refused. Thereafter during the class, Salman brought out a country-made pistol and fired at the girl.
"The bullet entered into the girl's shoulder after grazing the arm of another girl sitting next to her," Amroha Superintendent of Police Subhash Singh Baghel said.
Both of them were rushed to the government hospital in Gajraula, from where the critically injured girl was shifted to the Meerut Medical College.
"Both the injured girls belong to Dalit community," the district police chief said, adding that the accused had been arrested and booked under relevant sections of the IPC and the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
