A man allegedly threw acid on a 40-year-old woman and attempted to stab her in full public view today in nearby Tirupur after she spurned his overtures.
The 45-year-old man was caught by passersby who beat him up and later handed over to the police. Both the woman and the man were injured in the incident, police said.
The incident took place near the panchayat office in Velandipalayam, police said adding that the two have been hospitalised.
