A school student attacked a 15-year-old girl, after she allegedly refused to continue their friendship, and attempted suicide by slitting himself, at Natham in the district today, police said.
The incident occurred when the boy(15), studying in a private school approached the girl, studying in another school, today and asked her to talk to him, they said.
The boy, who was in love with the girl, picked up a quarrel with her after she told him that it would not be possible to continue their friendship.
The accused then drew out a blade and slit her throat before attempting to commit suicide, police said.
Both the boy and the girl have been admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai and are said to be in a serious condition, police said adding a case has been regsitered against the boy and investigation is on.
