Assuring that no more untoward incidents would take place in the Madurai bar, six senior lawyers from that city met Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and requested revocation of cancellation of their bar premises by the Registrar General.
Besides giving this assurance, the lawyers, who were led by Madras High Court Advocates Association president R C Paul Kanagaraj, said they would take care of the Bar and requested the CJ to revoke the cancellation of their Bar premises.
The Chief Justice then asked them to pass a resolution to the effect that the premises of the Madurai High Court would not be used for illegal activities like raising slogans and untoward activities, which will be discussed by the Full Court and a decision taken.

On September 30, a division bench of the Madras HC, which dealt with suo motu contempt proceedings against two leaders of Madurai Bar Association in connection with an anti-helmet rally, gave a split verdict on referring the matter to a larger bench.
The bench had initiated suo motu contempt proceedings against Madurai Bar Association President A Dharmarajan and Secretary A K Ramasamy in connection with a procession they took out there protesting a HC order making wearing of helmets compulsory, raising slogans against the Judge who had passed the order and also passing a resolution making "defamatory" statements against almost all judges of the court.
The bench had said the resolution passed by Madurai Bar "was totally against all professional and ethical norms. They cannot introduce their jungle rule against democracy, by their illegal threat and ultimatum against the judiciary and the government...," it had said.
