Six persons were today detained with demonetised notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 having a cumulative face value of Rs 91.28 lakh, police said.

These six men were detained by Special Operations Group (SOG) of Ahmedabad Rural police near Bakrol circle on the city outskirts, said a statement by the SOG.

Based on a specific tip off, SOG officials kept a watch near the circle and intercepted a car, carrying six persons.

Upon searching the vehicle, police found a large bag containing scrapped currency notes of Rs 91.28 lakh including 2,736 notes of Rs 1,000 besides 12,785 notes of Rs 500 denomination, said the statement.

As the six occupants, who were released later, failed to give any satisfactory answer about the source of the cash, SOG seized the old currency and began investigations, said the statement.
