Sreekumar seeks Rs 10.5 crore as claim for road mishap

Popular Malayalam actor Jagathy Sreekumar, who is recuperating at home after year long hospitalisation following a crippling car accident, has approached Motor Accident Claims Tribunal here seeking a compensation of Rs 10.5 crores from his insuruer.

The case was filed against the driver, who is also the owner of the car and the insurance company, family sources here said.

The petition, filed by the actor's wife on behalf of her husband, said he used to get an average Rs one lakh daily for each day's schedule and if he remained healthy his remuneration would have been double.

Following the accident, he had to cancel all the film projects and lost his memory and speech capacities, the petition said.
 

The details of medical report, treatment expenses and awards and recognitions the actor received in his decades-long career were also submitted along with the complaint, the family members said.

The actor sustained serious injuries when the car he travelled rammed over a divider at Thenipalam near Kozhikode in March last year.

After undergoing treatment in hospitals in Kozhikode and Vellore in Tamil Nadu, the actor was brought to his home here recently.

The 61-year-old actor, known mainly for his comedy roles, has acted in more than 1500 Malayalam movies. He is recipient of many honours including the Second Best Actor and the best comedian awards of the Kerala Government film awards.
