Sreekumaran Thampi conferred award

The veteran literary personality was presented the award by Vice Chancellor of Thunchathezhuthachan Malayalam University K Jayakumar at a function here.

The award is conferred annually by Chennai-based Asan Smaraka Kavitha Puraskaram on a person who has made an impact in Malayalam poetry and literature. It carries a cash award of Rs 30,000, a memento and a citation.

Known popularly as 'ST', Thampi is noted for many of his works, including 'Kaviyum Malakhamarum' (The poet and the angels), 'Engineerude Veena,' 'Neela Thamara,' 'En Makan Karayumbol' (When my son cries), 'Sheershakamillatha Kavithakal' (which won him the Muloor Poetry Award in 2005), 'Achante Chumbanam' (Revathy Pattathanam Krishna Geethi Award in 2003), and 'Ammakyoru Tharattu' that fetched him the Odakkuzhal award in 2010.
