The committee has been tasked to report back to the minister within one month from today, sports ministry officials said today.
Aluthgamage at a meeting of ministry officials yesterday had expressed dissatisfaction over the programmes launched by the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to unearth talented outstation players.
The minister has highlighted that despite the SLC's allocation of rupees 250 million annually for district and provincial cricket development, the returns have been inadequate.
Only a handful of the players from the provinces have made it to the national team, the minister pointed out.
Aluthgamage was also critical of the falling school cricket standards, officials said.
Cricket, once the preserve of the island's Colombo based elite schools setup was spread across the rural areas with many youngsters taking to the game since Sri Lanka became a Test playing nation in 1982.
Sri Lanka's win in the 1996 world cup was credited to the contributions that came from non-Colombo cricketers such as Sanath Jayasuriya and Romesh Kaluwitharana.
