Press Trust of India Colombo
Sri Lankan Air force has discovered the debris of a helicopter in the seas off Mullaitivu, a stronghold of LTTE, and will probe if the chopper belonged to defence forces.

The Naval spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya said the debris had been salvaged by a Navy diving team yesterday following an information received on the floating debris.

The Navy however did not confirm if the debris belonged to a helicopter which might have been shot down by the LTTE during their bloody military campaign.

The Tamil tigers had shot down several airforce helicopters during the 1990's.

The Navy late last year salvaged the remains of a passenger aircraft shot down by the LTTE in 1998.
