National award-winning director Srijit Mukherjee says he got the idea for his upcoming film "Nirbaak', starring Sushmita Sen in the lead role, from a surrealistic Salvador Dali painting.
The "Chatuskone" director, who made a splash with his very first film "Autograph", about a young filmmaker's angst, said he did not mind taking the risk with the off-beat project because the story is very unique.
"During a visit to a museum in Europe, I saw a Salvador Dali surrealistic painting where a tree assumed the shape of a human. I thought what would happen if that very tree would be overpowered by human passions and react in the same way - by loving, showing anger, and emotions," Sirjit told PTI.
The director said even if "Nirbaak" (speechless) does not get the kind of support as his previous films, he will still continue to take risks by making such films.
"Nirbaak is all about silent entities who communicate in a non-verbal way," he said about the movie, which has four stories tied together by Sushmita's character which bears no name.
"In the script, the woman can't be easily defined, she is beyond that. You will understand what I am talking about once you see the film. In the film, Sushmita is referred as 'The Girl' and 'The Woman'," the director said.
"And Sushmita has a perfect Bengali diction, perhaps better than many other Bengalis here. We bonded well and she could guess what I was looking for as a director," Srijit said.
"Nirbaak" will be released on May 1.
