A total bandh was observed in Srikakulam district today as shops and establishments remained closed for the day as part of the ongoing agitation against the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

All private educational institutions had already been observing a week long bandh since Monday.

During the bandh petty kirana shops, tea stalls, cinema theatres and petrol bunks also remained closed.

The bandh call given by the State Joint Action Committee, demanded the resignations of central ministers and MPs from the coastal Andhra-Rayalaseema (Seemandhra) region.

They expressed concern over the sanction of the Information Technology Investment Region to Hyderabad, though it was earlier proposed for Visakhapatnam, calling the Centre's move as a "provocation" to the people of the Seemandhra region.
