University Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Amarjyoti Choudhury told PTI today that the UGC had recently given the no-objection certificate to set up the chair in honour of Assam's great Vaishanav saint, reformer and cultural icon.
The university will introduce study and research work on Sankardeva with immediate effect and set up a committee to select a scholar for the chair soon.
"We will follow the norms adopted in the case of Rajiv Gandhi chair already introduced in the University by the UGC", he added.
The Tezpur Central University was set up in 1994 under the provisions of Assam Accord.
