Press Trust of India Srinagar
District Administration Srinagar today ordered an inquiry into alleged illegal constructions on land belonging to temple trusts in various parts of the city in violation of the laws.

"I have directed an Assistant Commissioner to look into the allegations of illegal constructions on Temple trust lands in the city," Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Farooq Ahmad Shah said.

Shah said the inquiry officer has been directed to submit his report within three days identifying the violators and officials who had failed to stop these illegal constructions, if any.

"If the allegations are found to be true, I have directed that an FIR be registered against the concerned persons," he added.

Shah said he had received several complaints about people constructing houses on lands belonging to a temple trust in Barzulla estate.

Last year, the state government launched a drive against illegal constructions on encroached temple lands in the city and had registered cases against two persons.

However, the drive was stopped this year and complaints of illegal constructions, in connivance with some officials, started pouring in.
