Srinagar gears up for Tong-IL-Moo-Do Championship

The sixth Sub-Junior National Tong-IL-Moo-Do Championship will start here tomorrow with over 250 players representing 15 states vying for the top slots.

All arrangements have been finalised for the three-day championship of a form of marshall arts to be held at S K Indoor Stadium for the second time in as many years, Organising Secretary of the tournament Arshid Aziz told PTI.

Aziz, who is also General Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Tong-IL-Moo-Do Association which is affiliated with Tong-IL-Moo-Do Federation of India, said his association has organised two Nationals and several state and district level events since the game was introduced in the state four years ago.
 

Last year, the National Championship held in Srinagar was won by Uttar Pradesh. Madhya Pradesh secured the second position followed by Chattisgarh. Earlier, Srinagar hosted the National Championship in 2012 - the year when the game was introduced in the state.

"A total of 500 participants including 260 players from over 15 different states are expected to take part in the championship. We have made all necessary arranagements for the success of the tournament," Aziz said.

He said many top players including Afrin Haider, Adnan Ayub, Mukal Chowri and Mohammad Inam Khan would be seen in action during the championship which will have 15 teams - Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradsh, Bihar, West Bengal, Haryana, Odisha, Gujarat and Kerala.
