Srinagar gets 1,387 cops under special drives, Jammu only 259

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, has registered over five times appointment of police officials under special recruitment drive as compared to Jammu with only 259 cops engaged in the division.

"As many as 1,387 candidates have been selected in the police department in six special recruitment drives in Srinagar as compared to 259 such candidates in two drives in Jammu district since 2009," Minister of State for Home Sajjad Ahmed Kitchloo said in a written reply to the question of Congress MLA G M Saroori and BJP member Bharat Bushan in the state Assembly today.

Similarly, 392 such cops have been recruited in Budgam district, followed by 305 in Shopian disitrict, 158 in Pulwama district and 133 in Baramulla district of Kashmir Valley, he said.
 

In Jammu division, 134 candidates have been recruited in Udhampur district, followed by 101 in Reasi district and 47 in Kishtwar district during the same period, he said.

While 2,357 candidates were recruited in police department from Kashmir Valley, only 541 cops have been recruited in Jammu division and no one has been recruited under special drive from Ladakh region of the state.
