Srinagar-Jammu highway to remain closed tomorrow

The administration has decided to keep the highway closed for traffic tomorrow in view of the inclement weather, IGP (Traffic) Muneer Khan said.

As many as 750 vehicles, including 250 passengers vehicles, are stranded at various places on the highway in Nagrota, Udhampur, Ramban and Banihal areas, police said.

Border Road Organisation personnel have been pressed into service to clear the snow of the highway.

A senior BRO officer said snow clearance operations are on, but those taking the route are advised to contact the traffic control room before starting their journey.

The traffic police is not allowing Srinagar-bound vehicles to move in view of threat of further snowfall and landslides in Ramban-Ramso-Patnitop belts.

 

It has asked passengers to undertake journey to the Valley only after confirming the status of the highway.

Meanwhile, snowfall has also been reported from Kishtwar, Doda, Poonch and Rajouri districts.

Normal life was affected in Jammu, Samba, Kathua areas, where power supply was interrupted due to heavy rains.
