The Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road was briefly blocked today following a landslide triggered by incessant rains in Uri sector of Baramulla district, police said.

A massive landslide hit the road near Laghama in Uri, 101 kms from here, blocking traffic, a police spokesman said.

He said police immediately swung into action to clear the road which connects Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) with Srinagar.

The personnel of Border Roads Organisation (BRO), which maintains the vital roads in the state, joined the rescue work and the road was cleared for light vehicles, the spokesman said.

The Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road had been blocked several times over the past few weeks due to massive landslides which also prompted the authorities to shift dozens of families living close to the Line of Control to safer places.
