Srinivasa Hatcheries today said its operations in two units near Visakhapatnam have been disrupted as they suffered substantial damage due to cyclonic storm 'Hudhud'.

There has been damage in its other units as well, but the details regarding the nature and extent of damage could not be ascertained as the communications and transport systems have been completely paralysed, the company said in a filing to the BSE.

"All the assets except the livestock have been covered by insurance. Efforts have begun to restore normalcy in operations in the units," the filing added.

The Hudhud cyclone had yesterday hit the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha with heavy rain and winds of about 170 kmph, leaving a trail of destruction in Vishakapatnam.

It has now weakened and moving north-westwards.

An alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall had been sounded in districts of Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram and in some parts of Odisha where the cyclone, which has claimed eight lives so far, had moved before heading to Chhattisgarh.
