Srirangam bypoll: Rs 64.18 lakh, 293 vehicles seized; 411 FIRs

A total of Rs 64.18 lakh in cash and 293 vehicles have been seized during inspection by various squads and 411 FIR registered in the run up to the February 13 bypoll to Srirangam constituency, Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Sandeep Saxena today said.

"During the inspection by various squads, 22,204 vehicles have been checked and a sum of Rs 64,18,500 has been seized so far along with 293 vehicles," he said in a statement.

A total of 464 persons have been arrested under preventive sections, around 1,088 arms deposited and 369 non-bailable warrants against accused persons have been executed, he said.
 

Posters have been defaced in over 1,000 locations, he added.

The campaign for the bypoll came to an end today.

AIADMK, BJP, and DMK are among the 29 contestants in the fray.
