Leading diagnostic chain SRL is in talks with six state governments in the country to start labs at government hospitals.

"Under the PPP model we already have 24 labs in state-run hospitals of Himachal Pradesh and very recently we have started 12 such labs in government hospitals of Jharkhand. We are using hub and spoke model to run these labs successfully," SRL Diagnostics Chief Executive Officer Sanjeev Vashishta told reporters here today.

He said the company is trying to reach out to more state governments for such tie-ups under the PPP model. "We are in talks with at least half a dozen governments. We can provide quality at government price."

In West Bengal, SRL is running a small lab at a government facility in remote Sagar Island.

Under the PPP model the diagnostic centres are operated by SRL on a fee for service basis.

SRL has a total 280 labs and 6,400 collection points, he said. "Three of our labs are overseas and 55 collection centres are outside India," Vashishta said adding that there are tie-ups in African countries using the fee based model.

Alongwith IFC and GE, SRL has set up Eagle Eye company in Nigeria to start 40 labs across the African country.

"The idea is to provide services in countries where technology and people are a challenge. Our overseas collection centres are working well because we are providing quality service at a fraction of the cost," he said.
