The Ghaziabad SSP has issued warning notices to 16 police officials for poor policing and instructed them take immediate steps to check incidents of auto theft in their areas.

"Negligent police officials who are not keeping a vigilant eye on auto thefts and other burglaries in the city's residential areas will be penalised," Senior Superintendent of Police K S Emmanuel said today.

Reprimanding 16 police outpost in-charges, he instructed them to enhance night patrolling in their respective areas to put a check on auto thefts, burglaries and break-ins.

"If crime is not controlled and auto theft cases are not solved they will be relieved from their charge and can be transferred to other districts. A pecuniary fine will also be deducted from their salaries," he warned.

"The decision has been taken because in the past 50 days 320 vehicles have been stolen from areas under the 16 police outposts, of which 175 were from six outposts of the Indira Puram police station," he said.

The officials have been instructed to meet local residents and with their help track the stolen vehicles, the SSP added.
