Grappling with severe staff shortage, the Competition Commission is looking to hire 15 research associates in various fields on a contract basis.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI), which keeps a tab on unfair business practices across sectors, has sought applications for people in financial analysis, economics and law.

In a public announcement, the watchdog said it is inviting "applications from eligible candidates for engagement of 15 research associates/professionals to assist the Commission in the discharge of its functions under the Competition Act".

As many as 8 professionals in the field of law, 5 in economics and 2 in financial analysis are to be hired.

This is the second time in less than a month that CCI has announced hiring plans. Recently, it called for more than 20 people for various director-level posts, including those of joint directors.

Last month, the Corporate Affairs Ministry had said there were 72 vacant positions out of the sanctioned strength of 197 at CCI in 2015-16.

The number of vacancies at the fair trade regulator was slightly higher than 68 in 2014-15 while it was 92 in 2013-14.

CCI comes under the administrative control of the Corporate Affairs Ministry.
