DMK Treasurer M K Stalin today said he was overwhelmed by the response of the people for his ongoing "Namakku Naame" (self-reliance) campaign, aimed at enaging with the public ahead of assembly elections due early next year.

"The reponse of the people for my campaign is more than what I expected. People also reveal to me their anguish, grievance and disappointment over the ruling party without any inhibition," he claimed in a statement here.

Stalin, who on Sept 20 launched his 12-day tour aimed at covering all the 234 assembly constituencies in the state and connect with the public, is currently touring Madurai District.

"People's love and affection overwhelms me. I realise how much people love me and how much they expect from me," the DMK leader, son of party President M Karunanidhi, said.

He claimed people showed their 'gratefulness' for the DMK for contribution made by it for the development of Tamils, Tamil language, and Tamil Nadu.

The DMK leader said he considered his campaign as a "Golden period" as it provided him an opportunity to mingle with the people.

Earlier, addressing a series of way-side meetigs here, Stalin alleged crime against women in the state has increased by several folds during the present AIADMK regime.

He also charged that development schemes that were introduced during the previous DMK rule had been "deliberately" put on the back burner.
