police describe as a "psychic stalker", was arrested here for allegedly harassing a PhD scholar of Delhi University for the past two years through obscene text messages and telephone calls, police said today.

Nadeem Mirza, who graduated from Jamia Millia and is running a mobile repair shop at present, was arrested from Turkman Gate following investigations into the complaint filed by the victim, Sindhu Pillai, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), said.

"We have arrested the psychic stalker who used to send sleazy, lascivious and obsecene SMS to the girl and family for over two years," she said.

The victim approached police on June seven complaining against an anonymous person who was sending objectionable text messages from different mobile numbers to her at odd hours.

"The stalker also used to call her brother and threaten him of dire consequences if the matter was ever reported to police. Due to the persistent mental harassment, the girl's family had shifted her residence to Shahibabad in UP, Pillai said.

During investigations, it came to light that the caller was frequently changing the phones but the location of the mobiles was traced to Turkman Gate, Delhi.

"The investigation revealed that one person had earlier met the sister of the complainant and obtained her mobile number. He had tried to make some lewd advances to the complainant but the same was strongly objected to by her in 2010.

"The technical surveillance led to the arrest of Mirza," Pillai said.
