The standing committee set up by Government for promoting women in science sector is scheduled to hold its first meeting next week in Bangalore, Lok Sabha was informed today.
"Government of India has set up a Standing Committee for Promoting Women in Science on March 11, 2016. The first meeting of this Standing Committee is scheduled to be held on May 16, 2016 at Bangalore," Union Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Y S Chowdary said, while replying to a query.
To another question, Chowdary cleared no time limit has been fixed for the committee to submit its report.

The Minister noted that women working in science and technology in the government sector face certain issues, which he added, may lead to their lower representation in the sector and said the concerns are being addressed by the Department of Science and Technology through its KIRAN programme.
To address issues relating mobility of women working in the sector from one location to another, Chowdary said the department has recently initiated a 'Mobility' programme.
The first call for proposals under the Mobility programme was made on April 29, 2016, he added.
