'Star Wars: Episode VIII' titled 'The Last Jedi'

The next chapter of the 'Star Wars' saga finally has a name, and it's "Star Wars: The Last Jedi."

Disney today announced the official title and unveiled the new logo for the film.

"It's official. STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is the next chapter of the Skywalker saga. This December. #TheLastJedi," the official 'Star Wars' page tweeted.

The movie is written and directed by Rian Johnson and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman.

JJ Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski are serving as executive producers.

The movie also marks Carrie Fisher's last in the popular franchise. Fisher starred as Princess Leia in all original 'Star Wars' trilogy.
 

Actor Mark Hamill's character Luke Skywalker will appear right from the outset of the "The Last Jedi" and will have ample amount of the screen-time.

The movie will investigate the motivations of the hero trio, Rey, Finn, and Poe, while also revealing more about the mysterious histories of these characters.

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" is scheduled for release December 15, 2017.
