The Opposition targeted the ruling AAP today over the starvation deaths of three girls in east Delhi, with the Congress taking out a candle march and BJP legislators meeting the LG to highlight the "failures" of the city government.
Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari, along with other leaders and workers of the party, will stage a fast at Jantar Mantar over the incident tomorrow.
Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken led the candle march taken out by the party in the Mandwali area, where the girls died due to hunger on July 24.
The march aimed to highlight the plight of the poor people, who were either starving or compelled to die of starvation, Maken said.
"Under the rule of the AAP in Delhi and the BJP at the Centre, the worst sufferers are the poor and the marginalised people, who are fighting to earn two square meals a day," he added.
Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta (BJP), accompanied by party MLAs, met Lieutenant Governor (LG) Anil Baijal and complained against the "irregularities" related to ration cards to the latter.
"The delegation submitted to the LG that due to the mishandling of the ration system and the inability to issue new ration cards of the AAP government, Mandwali-like incidents cannot be stopped," a statement from Gupta said.
