Terming the state CEO's office as "non-performing", Congress candidate from Kolkata North constituency Somen Mitra today questioned whether free and fair polls is possible in West Bengal as a large section of the state administration is working on behalf of the ruling TMC.
"I doubt whether free and fair polls is possible in Bengal with a section of officials working either under pressure or on behalf of the ruling Trinamool Congress," said Mitra.
Questioned about the functioning of the state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sunil Gupta, Mitra said the department was a non-performing one.

"Congress leaders and workers are being beaten up, but neither the police, the district administration nor the CEO's office is taking any action. It is really shameful," he said.
Asked about the possibility of a post-poll alliance with the Trinamool Congress, Mitra said "Those who deny to acknowledge the existence of the Congress, will they be interested in forging an alliance with us? They will be in a better position to answer this. We are confident of UPA-3 coming to power.
