State cooperatives buying agricultural items from farmers

To save farmers from middlemen, West Bengal cooperative department is buying paddy directly from them at minimum support price, a state minister said today.

West Bengal Cooperative Minister Jyotirmoy Kar said the state government was also mulling the idea of creation of a cooperative corridor to facilitate the delivery of agricultural products directly from farmers to consumers.

There are a total 44 cold storages for the benefit of potato farmers in the state, he said.
