State government cracks whip on power theft

Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department (PDD) has registered FIRs against 600 consumers and imposed a cumulative fine of over Rs one crore for indulging in power theft.

"As many as 600 FIRs have been lodged against those who have been found indulging in the practice of power theft and an amount of Rs one crore fine has been imposed on them," a spokesman of the PDD said.

He said during the drive, the department has regularised 600 electricity connections while 277 illegal ones were disconnected.
