Congress leader Sachin Pilot today accused the BJP-led government in the state of neglecting the interests of farmers while alleging that assessment of loss of farmers' crops was not carried out fairly.
Addressing the party workers in Jalore district, the PCC President said that 45 per cent posts of patwaris (revenue officials) were lying vacant and those engaged in survey work were not doing their job honestly and fairly.
He alleged that more than 50 farmers died in the state due to shock or suicide after their crops were destroyed in unseasonal rains and hailstorms but the government did not take it seriously.
"This is anti-farmer and anti-people government that has nothing to do with farmers and the common man. Farmers are being given cheques bearing petty amount of Rs 50, Rs 200," he said, adding, the BJP had forgotten its promises which it had made before the state assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
