Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi on Monday asked the state machinery to be fully prepared to handle any situation arising out of the deadly novel coronavirus.

Mukhi held a meeting with senior officials of the disaster management and health and family welfare departments at Raj Bhavan here.

"While hailing the precautionary steps taken so far, the governor emphasised that men and machinery of the government should be fully prepared in their response," an official release said.

He also asked the Health and Family Welfare Principal Secretary Samir Sinha to engage ASHA functionaries to undertake door-to-door visits and report any suspected case.

Sinha told the governor that though no positive coronavirus cases have been detected in Assam, the state machinery is ready to face any contingency, the release said.
