"It is sheer inactiveness on the part of the state government as the World Cup champion Deepika is the lone sportsperson from Jharkhand representing the country in the Olympics," said Balmuchu, who is also the president of East Singhbhum district Olympic Association.
He said words of encouragement and praise enhance the confidence level of an athlete.
Unlike various state governments including Haryana, which has already announced cash rewards for sportspersons on winning medals in London Games, Balmuchu regretted that no such announcement has been made by the state government.
A newly-elected Rajya Sabha member, Balmuchu assured that he would take up the issue with the concerned ministry at Centre to ensure due recognition to sportspersons making India proud at the London Olympics.
