State is power surplus, says AP Energy Minister

Andhra Pradesh Minister for Energy K Kala Venkata Rao said the government has been providing 24-hours power supply to consumers as the state was having surplus power.

Addressing the media after inaugurating the newly constructed block at a cost of Rs 5.73 crore here in the city, the minister said 24x7 power supply was being extended to all areas and seven hours continuous three phase power supply to agricultural sector.

Under Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Limited (APEPDCL) constituting five districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagram, Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari, overhead lines are proposed for replacement with underground cables with financial assistance from the World Bank to the tune of Rs 720 crore.
 

He said the APEPDCL has been providing 1.96 lakh agricultural consumers free power.

The minister said 75.41 lakh LED bulbs have been distributed to domestic consumers and 10.59 lakh additional LED bulbs were distributed to SC and ST consumers.
