The state education secretaries at a meeting here today, reviewed the safety aspects of students in the campuses and during trips and discussed the guidelines for implementation in wake of some recent incidents in college and school campuses.

The Centre had recommended state guidelines in a letter written to all states for review and implementation which include that the head of the institution ensure that the tour undertaken is for the benefit of the student and is related to the course curriculum.

The head of the institution should also ensure issuing security i-cards to all such students and maintain a separate database of the personal details like guardians, local guardians, home address, mobile and e-mail.

Further, school heads should ensure that written permission of one of the parents or local guardian is submitted on behalf of every such student wanting to participate in the educational tour.

They should also ensure that there is a senior teacher accompanying such students on educational tours. Further, a senior lady teacher should accompany if there are girl students participating at the tour.

The recommendation also underscores that institution heads should also ensure that an undertaking is taken from every participating students that they would abide by all the rules and have submitted the permission of their parents.
