Congress MP Pradip Bhattacharya today met West Bengal Governor K N Tripathi and demanded that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee take steps to save the jute industry and its employees.
Saying that presently 19 jute mills are closed in Bengal, Bhattacharya alleged that the workers, employees and their families were starving.
"The state government should immediately take steps by calling a tripartite meeting between workers, owners and government officials," he said after meeting the Governor.
Bhattachraya also felt that the central government should look into the situation.
