Abdul Salaam Reshi and Mohammad Yousuf Bhat were cross-examined by the counsel for the family of the deceased National Conference worker before the Justice (retd) H S Bedi commission.
Yousuf died in police custody on September 30 last year.
According to sources, Reshi and Bhat both said that they stood by the statements made last year under section 164-A before the magistrate.
When Reshi was asked about his statement made to the media about the circumstances leading to Yousuf's death, Reshi said he was not aware of the contents of the statement made before the media, the sources said.
The commission will examine four policemen on the next date of hearing on June 21.
Post-mortem report and a magisterial inquiry have ruled out any foul play in Yousuf's death and concluded that he died of a heart attack.
The state government appointed Justice Bedi, a retired Supreme Court judge, to probe the matter in November last year.
