Police have registered an FIR and today recorded the statements of the three Ugandan women who alleged they were brought to India on promise of good jobs and instead held hostages by drug mafias and pushed into prostitution.
According to the police, the FIR was registered on Monday after they got a written communication that the women had recorded their statements with the Deputy Commissioner (South and Southeast) Nila Mohanan.
"An FIR has been registered under section 366, 368, 384, 06 of the IPC and section 4/5 of IT(P) Act and the investigation of the case has been taken up," said a senior police official.
Following the registration of the complaint, police recorded their statements today after obtaining orders from the Saket district court, he said.
Police said the women have been sent to government-run Nari Niketan in west Delhi this morning.
The three women had yesterday approached Delhi government saying their passports and other important documents have been taken away by the "drug mafia".
They had requested the government to help in the matter and arrange for their safe return to Uganda.
"They were taken to the Deputy Commissioner's (South) office and their statements were registered under section 164 CrPC. We have already approached the MEA seeking protection to them. We also requested the Ministry to arrange for their return to Uganda," a Delhi government official had said yesterday.
The state government had also sought the intervention of Ministry of External Affairs in providing "protection" to the three Ugandan women.
The women said they live in south Delhi's Khirki Extension area where controversial Law Minister Somnath Bharti had allegedly led a group of AAP supporters in conducting a raid against some African women accusing them of involvement in a prostitution racket.
Congress and BJP as well as various women organizations had come down hard on Bharti for his action. However, AAP had maintained he was innocent and wanted the police to carry out a raid against an alleged drug and prostitution ring.
