The Supreme Court today agreed to hear a plea for making teaching of Yoga compulsory in schools and asked the petitioner to implead all the state education boards in addition of CBSE and ICSE.
A bench headed by Justice H L Dattu asked the petitioner lawyer J C Seth and Padma Bhushan awardee G L Tandon to implead the states within four weeks.
The petitioners sought directions to develop a curriculum, for study of yoga for all students from Class I to Class VIII. They approached the apex court after the Delhi High Court refused to direct governments to introduce Yoga in schools.
They submitted Yoga has nothing to do with religion and it is just a mental and physical exercise.
