As a wave of tributes and encomiums poured in after the death of APJ Abdul Kalam, an Agricultural college in Bihar was today named after the former President while a chapter on his life is to be taught in schools in Madhya Pradesh.

With some states and his wellwishers initiating steps to perpetuate the memory of Kalam, a demand was made by Samajwadi Party to name a proposed 35-km long coastal road which will run along Mumbai's western coast from Nariman Point in South Mumbai to Kandivali in western suburbs after him.

Paying tribute to the 'people's President' in a way that matched his ideals, Kerala State Women's Development Corporation, under the state Social Justice Department, has decided to work on August 2, a Sunday.

KSWDC Managing Director P T M Sunish said the decision was taken to fulfil a wish of Kalam, who had urged that a holiday be not declared on his death, but to work an extra day.

Several schools across the country also observed a minute's silence in memory of the former President while top scientists who were closely associated with Kalam during his stint in ISRO recalled that he was a "very great nationalist".

Paying rich tributes to Kalam, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar named Kisanganj Agriculture college after him.

"The Agriculture college will now be known as 'Dr Kalam Agriculture College Kisanganj'," Kumar said in a statement in Patna before leaving for Delhi to pay tributes to the former President.

In Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said a lesson on the life of Kalam will be taught in schools across the state in a bid to make students ideal citizens in their life.

"A lesson on Dr Kalam's life will be taught in schools," Chouhan told reporters in Bhopal.

Chouhan said that teaching children about Kalam's life will inspire them in achieving their goal and make them ideal citizens.

Although Kalam is no more, his Twitter account will continue to be active in a new form.

A team of close associates of Kalam decided to run his official Twitter account which has now been renamed as 'In memory of Dr Kalam'.

"Dedicated 2 immortal memories of Dr Kalam. This account wil nw reflect his thoughts, his lessons & missions. Miss you sir! (sic)," Kalam's close aide Srijan Pal Singh said in a tweet.

He would now act as the administrator of his Twitter account and will keep sharing inspirational quotes from an innumerable number of speeches made by Kalam and his books like 'Wings of Fire', 'India 2020' and 'Ignited Minds'.

Since February 2011, Kalam had been regularly posting his views on contemporary issues facing the country besides sending out inspirational messages on Twitter.

He had more than 1.4 million followers on the micro-blogging site which is now flooded with his one-liners.

#KalamSir has been trending on Twitter in India since last night.

International sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik created a sand sculpture of Kalam at Puri beach to pay tribute to the former president.

The four-feet high sand sculpture carried a message "Tribute to common man, Missile Man, Bharat Ratna, People's President".
