Station in-charge, 5 constables suspended over youth's murder

A police station in-charge and five constables have been suspended for their alleged involvement in the murder of a youth here, police said today.

Sarnath station in-charge Rajesh Yadav, along with constables Nepal Singh, Aftab Alam, Lalji Yadav, Santosh Kumar Mishra and Lakshman Prasad, were suspended over their reported involvement in the murder of Bhavesh Pandey (38).

Pandey was shot at multiple times by four motorcycle- borne miscreants in Mawaiyya in Ashapur on Sunday night reportedly over a land dispute. He succumbed to injuries on way to hospital, police said.

His family members held violent protests at the hospital alleging that the Sarnath in-charge was involved in the killing.
 

SSP Ajay Kumar Mishra, who visited the hospital to control the situation, assured the family that a probe would be conducted and role of police would be investigated in the matter.

Pandey was associated with magazine 'Inside India', published from Lucknow.

On the complaint of the victim's brother Rajesh, a complaint was registered against Jiyut Pandey, former pradhan of Ashapur village, Krishna Avatar Upadhyay and Varanasi Central Jail guard Jyanendra Pandey. Krishna and Jyanendra have been arrested, police said.
