Statutory inquiry conducted

Commissioner of Railway Safety Satish Kumar Mittal today conducted an statutory inquiry here on the accident during which the wrist of a woman passenger travelling by the Ananthapuri express on May 9 was chopped off after it hit a sign board which was close to the coach.

The accident happened near Chattirapatti between Kallikudi and Virudhungar.

Even as the full fledeged inquiry is on, Mittal held a statutory inquriy into the reasons for the sign board coming dangerously close to the track.

He along with other officials also inspected the coach in which the passenger travelled and later visited the injured railway passenger Mahalakshmi who was injured in the accident.
 

Meanwhile Railway administration gave an ex-gratia of Rs 25,000 to Mahalakshmi. Besides, the Southern Railway Women's Welfare Organisation also handed over Rs 20,000 towards the medical expenses to the passenger.
