Std 12 student run over by truck

An 18-year-old youth was killed while his friend was severely injured when their motorbike was hit by a truck in south Delhi's Katwaria Sarai area, police said today.

The deceased has been identified as one Akash Kataria, a class 12 student and resident of Katwaria Sarai.

His friend, who was riding pillion, is reportedly critical following the incident that was reported at around 7.30 PM last evening, police said, adding that truck driver is in their custody after having being caught by some locals.

According to police, the duo were moving down Shaheed Jeet Singh Marg when the truck, approaching from the Adhchini area, hit their motorbike.
 

While Kataria was crushed beneath the wheels of the truck, his friend was hurled several metres away in the impact of the collision.

Locals rushed the duo to a nearby hospital where Kataria was declared brought dead, police said.

The driver of the truck has been booked for rash driving and causing death by negligence, they added.

Kataria's body has been handed over to his relatives after a post-mortem, police said. It is still being ascertained whether the duo was wearing helmets, they said.
