Literacy rate among the scheduled caste population of Delhi has registered a steady rise, with the figure going up from 20.86 per cent in 1961 to 70.85 per cent in 2001 and 78.89 per cent in 2011.
Although the 2011 figure was below Delhi's overall literacy rate of 86.20 per cent, it remained above the national average of 63.07 per cent, according to the Economic Survey of Delhi 2014-15, which was tabled in the Assembly today.
As per the survey, in 2011, Delhi recorded a Scheduled Caste (SC) workforce population of 9.01 lakh which is 16.14 per cent of the total workforce (55.87 lakh). Out of an SC population of 28.12 lakhs, 32.06 per cent were employed whereas 31.60 per cent of Delhi's total population was employed.
A whopping 80.57 per cent of funds allocated for the welfare of SC, ST, OBC and minorities was spent this year, as compared to 77.20 per cent last year.
