The gathering was organised by Washington-based body EcoSikh, which also celebrated its 3rd anniversary today.

"The meeting aims at making the city eco-friendly and environmentally sustainable...Various organisations have come forward to take concrete individual and collaborative steps to reduce carbon footprints," EcoSikh president Rajwant Singh said.

Among the organisations participated in the event are SGPC, business group Celebration Mall, DAV educational group and Punjab Energy Development Agency.

It was decided that saplings will be planted across the city to increase green patches.

EcoSikh has proposed a six-point agenda for the campaign in which various sections of civil society and administration made commitments towards sustainable infrastructure, water conservation, recycling and better waste management, alternate energy usage, introducing public transport, increasing green cover and open spaces, and sharing information on greening strategies.
