Steps will be taken to help Indians who wish to avail amnesty

The minister told reporters here he would hold talks with Civil Aviation Minister on Monday in this regard.

He had already written to Chief Ministers of various states to provide all help to those wanting to return to India, he told reporters.

The United Arab Emirates had announced a two-month amnesty asking illegal residents to either leave the country without penalty or regularise their visas between December 4 to February 3.

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had responded favourably, he said.

Replying to a query, he said there was no rehabilitation plan as of now for them.

Ravi said he had read media reports about the human trafficking from airports in Kerala. Government was viewing the issue very seriously, he said.

 

The minister, who inaugurated the organising committee office of the 11th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, said over 1500 delegates were expected to participate in the three-day event from January 7-9 next year.

While Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will inaugurate the event on January 8, President Pranab Mukherjee will deliver the valedictory address on January 9.

Mauritius President, Rajkeshwur Purryag will be the chief guest at the event.
