Filmmaker Danny Boyle's biopic of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs will release on October 9, this year.

The film, adapted from Walter Isaacson's biography Steve Jobs, is written by Aaron Sorkin and stars Michael Fassbender in the lead role. Actor Seth Rogen stars as co-founder Steve Wozniak, said The Hollywood Reporter.

'Steve Jobs' will see competition from 'Vacation' reboot, Halle Berry-starrer thriller 'Kidnap' and Buena Vista's 'The Finest Hours', starring Chris Pine, as they release on the same date.

The Jobs biopic was originally set up at Sony, but Universal announced that it had picked up the film on November 24 last year.

Before Fassbender, 37, eventually nabbed the lead role, multiple actors had been attached to star as Jobs in the film, including Christian Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio.

The film also stars Kate Winslet, Jeff Daniels and Katherine Waterston in pivotal roles.
